LEC Summer Playoffs

The 2021 LEC summer playoffs is almost here after the regular split ended on August 1 with Rogue finishing first. As usual, six teams have qualified for the LEC playoffs. While only one of these teams will lift the LEC summer split trophy, two more will join as Europe’s representatives at the 2021 Worlds.

Asides from Rogue, the other teams that have qualified for the summer playoffs include:

  • G2 Esports
  • MAD Lions
  • Misfits Gaming
  • Fnatic
  • Team Vitality

The 2021 LEC summer playoffs will take a double-elimination bracket format played over three weekends. All matches will be in the form of the best-of-five series. The first game of the playoffs will be between 1st seed, Rogue and 3rd seed, Misfits on August 13. While the second game will take place the following day between G2 and MAD. Fnatic and Vitality will play against each other on August 15 in an elimination best-of-five series.

LEC Playoffs Schedule

For those confused on who to back in the first games of playoffs, we’ll be analyzing all the matches below to give you 2021 LEC summer playoffs predictions.

2021 LEC summer playoffs Game 1: Rogue vs. Misfits

Rogue LEC

Rogue go into the 2021 LEC summer playoffs as one of the favourites to win it all. They lost the spring finals to MAD Lions and will be eager to win this time around. Moreover, Rogue won both games against Misfits during the regular summer split. The first game between the two teams was quite close with only about a 2,000 gold lead separating them. But Rogue won the rematch more convincingly with 18 kills and almost a 9,000 gold lead. Even though Rogue places less emphasis on stacking dragons and securing dragon souls, their superb early laning phase helps them to maintain map pressure. Also, the bot duo of Adrian “Trymbi” Trybus and Steven “Hans sama” Liv have been the best in summer. Asides from this, the pathing of Rogue’s jungler, Kacper “Inspired” Sloma makes it difficult to easily gank any of Rogue’s members.

While Rogue are strong favourites to win this match, the Misfits roster must not be overlooked. Their team fighting prowess especially around neutral objectives makes them a difficult team to face. Furthermore, they are also better in the mid to late game.

Verdict: Rogue to win 3-1. The reason for this is that Misfits do not have a strong record against the top teams. They only defeated G2 and Fnatic once this season and failed to take a game off MAD or Rogue. Given Rogue’s macro play, it will be difficult for Misfits to win the best-of-five series against them.

G2 Esports vs. MAD Lions

G2 Esports

For this game, it is quite difficult to choose an outright favourite given how tight games between both teams have been. While G2 had a slow start to the summer, they came alive in the last few weeks of the regular split. They also hold a 2-0 record over MAD Lions in the regular season. However, given how the recent best of five series have gone between these two teams, G2 would not find it easy here. Compared to MAD, G2 seems to have the more skilled team with Rasmus “Caps” Winther and Martin “Rekkles” Larsson there. Their proactive style of play also makes it difficult for teams to control the game how they would like to. Moreover, G2’s draft during the summer split has shown that they’re always looking to surprise teams in-game.

For MAD Lions, they will be relying on their mid-jungle duo of Javier “Elyoya” Prafes and Marek “Humanoid” Brazda. The two have proved to be very instrumental for MAD over the split and will look to continue doing so. While both teams do not have the beast early games, their team fighting abilities is where they shine. Both teams will be looking to win every team fight in games as they would be crucial to determining the entire series.

Verdict: G2 to win 3-2. The reason for this is that G2 looked like the better team at the end of the regular season. If they carry such form into the 2021 LEC summer playoffs, then they will win this series.

Fnatic vs. Team Vitality

vitality vs fnatic

For both teams, this is a must-win series as the loser immediately exits the 2021 LEC summer playoffs. So, the stakes are high for all involved. Fnatic finished the summer split with a 2-0 record against Vitality and will be looking for a clean sweep in the series. They will be relying on the wealth of experienced players on their side plus rookie, Adam “Adam” Maanane. While Oskar “Selfmade” Boderek will lead the Vitality squad. Team Vitality qualified for the playoffs on the final day of the LEC after Excel lost to G2. Their inconsistency and record against Fnatic make it hard to predict in their favour.

Furthermore, Fnatic’s top and bottom lanes are much stronger compared to Vitality’s. Fnatic are also known for their ability to take away dragons and rift heralds from their opponents. So, Vitality must be wary of this and also make sure they do not allow Fnatic to dominate the early game.

Verdict: Fnatic to win 3-1. The reason for this is because of Fnatic’s record against Vitality and experience in Playoffs.

With these 2021 LEC summer playoffs predictions, you can now know which teams to pick heading into the first few games.
