DreamHack Masters Stockholm Group D Preview

It’s time to break down Group D at DreamHack Masters Stockholm, with the group boasting the likes of Gambit, HellRaisers, mibr and mousesports.

Coming to the last group, Group D at DreamHack Masters Stockholm, the group is arguably the most stacked one at the event. But, there are some problems with each of the four teams. Gambit are yet to actually find form with their new lineup. HellRaisers will be attending the LAN with a stand-in, with Ozgur ‘woxic’ Eker having visa problems.

mibr have recently grabbed the ZOTAC Cup Masters title. But, the field was very weak and DreamHack Masters Stockholm will serve as the real test for the new lineup. mousesports on the other hand, are yet to find their groove after the addition of Janusz ‘Snax’ Pogorzelski.

Gambit – HLTV Ranking #18 – (AdreN, Dosia, mou, Hobbit, mir)

Unlike the other iterations, Gambit are not inconsistent anymore. The problem though, is they are consistently mediocre now, rather than being great at times. The PGL Krakow Champions decided to add Nikolay ‘mir’ Bityukov to their lineup and has since been on a steady rise back to their old pedestal.

But, it is the addition of Andrey ‘B1ad3’ Gorodenskiy as a coach that will be crucial to Gambit’s fortunes at DreamHack Masters Stockholm and the ensuing FACEIT Major. The legendary IGL has likely been brought in to add structure to what is otherwise a very loose playstyle.

Gambit have experienced customers mixed with the right amount of raw skill to make a splash. Their first LAN event with B1ad3 as a coach saw them bag a Top four finish.

At Stockholm, they start their proceedings with a best of 1 matchup against mousesports. Gambit have a decent record against the European mix and will fancy their chances, especially in the best of 1. All the other teams look beatable at this moment.

Gambit could use some good results and DreamHack Masters Stockholm will be the perfect opportunity to gather some momentum. Expect the CIS giants to surprise everyone by being one of the two teams to progress to the Quarter-Finals. But, that should be as far as they reach.

HellRaisers – HLTV Ranking #16 – (ANGE1, bondik, DeadFox, ISSAA, woxic)

His absence will have an impact. (Picture Courtesy – HLTV)

woxic has visa problems and will not be able to represent HellRaisers at DreamHack Masters Stockholm. Zygimantas ‘nukkye’ Chmieliauskas has agreed to stand in for the Turkish prodigy. HellRaisers had a disappointing IEM Shanghai 2018 campaign, bowing out in the Group Stage itself.

HellRaisers do have a couple of decent placements with the current lineup in 2018. But, with the level of talent they possess, they have been underperforming. At DreamHack Masters Stockholm without woxic, HellRaisers are not expected to make it past the Groups anyway.

They start off against mibr, a team that come into the DreamHack Masters Stockholm on the back of a successful trip to Hong Kong. However, nukkye is a credible AWPer and is a direct replacement for woxic unlike Kristjan ‘fejtZ’ Allsaar, who has been the go-to standin for HellRaisers.

Don’t expect HellRaisers to get past the Group Stage. They would be lucky to get to the decider. All focus will be on getting woxic in time for the FACEIT Major.

mibr – HLTV Ranking #7 – (FalleN, tarik, fer, Stewie2k, coldzera)

It is tough to say that Janko ‘YNk’ Paunovic’s arrival as the coach has improved mibr already. They did win the ZOTAC Cup Masters LAN Finals. But, the playing field was rather weak, with mibr registering a quick 3-0 series win over Kinguin in the final.

The manner of their victories in Hong Kong though, suggest mibr have atleast begun disposing off the comparatively lower-tier teams without much hassle. At DreamHack Masters Stockholm, they will now seek to analyse whether they can now match up against teams of the same tier.

Starting off against HellRaisers, mibr are expected to win and progress to the Winners’ Matchup. Ideally, mibr should progress to the Quarter-Finals and given the firepower they possess, DreamHack Masters Stockholm could serve as the return of mibr at top-tier events.

mousesports – HLTV Ranking #5 – (oskar, Snax, chrisJ, suNny, ropz)

Can he propel mousesports to the next tier? (Picture Courtesy – HLTV)

mousesports is a complicated project. The stack was already a top-five team before the addition of Snax. The arrival of the Polish star was expected to add more firepower and push mousesports into the top-two bracket. That, unfortunately, has not happened so far.

The team though, is getting there, slowly but surely. mousesports managed to reach the semi-finals at ELEAGUE CSGO Premier 2018 before losing to Astralis. They have shown gradual improvement. Snax is a player that requires certain spaces to exploit, which will make things difficult to adapt in the beginning.

But, once the stack does settle down and get into their groove, this looks like a scary lineup. For DreamHack Masters Stockholm though, we expect them to be surprised by Gambit, who might shock people with their structured gameplay, something mousesports and other teams might not have prepared for.
