EnVyUs, in recent times, have been playing superbly online. It seems that whenever they play online, EnVyUs is always popping off. But when it comes to a LAN setting, EnVyUs lose the magic that carries them to good results. Whatever the cause is, it seems that the boys in blue lack the confidence to compete on LAN. The excuse of being more comfortable at home (than on LAN) may form an argument, but all of the players on EnVyUs have enough experience to refute. LAN jitters should not be the reason for their derailing results.

EnVyUs on LAN

(August to October)

  • Qualified for Playoffs – ELEAGUE CS:GO Premier 2017 vs. Ninjas in Pyjamas
  • Eliminated (7-8th, Group Stage) – ESL One: New York 2017 vs. Natus Vincere
  • Eliminated (7-8th, Group Stage) – ESG Tour Mykonos 2017 vs. BIG
  • Eliminated (9-16th, Group Stage) – DreamHack Masters Malmö 2017 vs. fnatic

Of their online matches, the pattern of EnVyUs’ wins are very repetitive. Half of their map wins on the way to qualifying for Oakland and New York (6 out of 12 maps) were on de_cobblestone or de_nuke. At ESG Tour Mykonos, EnVyUs won de_cobblestone for 3 of their 5 map wins en-route to qualifying. It seems that at the time, their opponents were very confident in not vetoing cobblestone or nuke against EnVyUs.

Their only success on LAN was at ELEAGUE. In their group, EnVyUs clashed against Ninjas in Pyjamas, Virtus.Pro, and Cloud9. On their road to qualifying, they beat Virtus.Pro on de_cobblestone (a staple of EnVyUs’ strengths) and defeated Ninjas in Pyjamas in the group deciding match. When it went down to the final stretches, it was RpK who went inhuman and tanked throughout the entire best of 3. In fact, he may be considered as the only reason as to why EnVyUs won de_cache.

When it comes down to pointing out the problem in EnVyUs, most of the flak is directed at SIXER or ScreaM. The support AWPer for EnVyUs, SIXER lacks the consistency of playing such a vital role in a team. In a meta where aim and AWPers are the way to success, SIXER performs at a lackluster level in comparison to his counterparts. ScreaM has been the subject of controversy for not meeting community expectations. Famously known for his mechanical ability to consistently hit headshots, that skill has not transitioned into star level and consistent performances. ScreaM, essentially, is a hit or miss on the roster.

While some of the negativity can be directed towards Happy, he isn’t baiting as much as before. Specifically, on de_cobblestone, you’ll notice that he is more faster on his lurks or he is spending more time on bombsite hits with the team. Before, Happy would wait for a very long time, but he seems to be spending more time making impact early on. In addition, Happy has been picking up the AWP as of lately, and was one of the pivotal factors in their ELEAGUE win on de_cache versus Ninjas in Pyjamas.

Regardless, it is not working out for EnVyUs. Whether they need more input from the coach or a psychologist remains in the question. This team has a bunch of potential skill wise, but they have yet to apply it successfully on LAN.
