Evil Geniuses won StarSeries & i-League Season 8 after defeating Fnatic 2-0 in the Grand Finals.

StarSeries & i-League Season 8 is Evil Geniuses’ second tournament victory after ESL One New York. Despite the absence of Astralis and Team Liquid at this tournament, EG had to face off against strong opponents such as Renegades, G2 and NiP.

EG’s only series loss came against NiP in the Group Stage. The North American team picked up their performances after their upset defeat to the Ninjas.

The Grand Finals

EG faced Fnatic in the Grand Finals in a Best of Three series. The North American team picked Dust 2 for the first map going to their comfort zone. Dust 2 started with Fnatic leading the map 9-0. With JW looking unstoppable in the early game, it seemed that the Swedish team would run away with the map.

However, Brehze had something to say about EG’s performance as he top scored in the match.

Despite being up 9-0, Fnatic had no reply to EG’s aggressive T-side plays. Evil Geniuses won Map 1 easily despite their early loss.

As things moved to EG’s map pick, Mirage, the North American team already looked to be the favorites to win the tournament. While the first half ended with a relatively close 9-6 scoreline for EG, Fnatic did not have an answer to EG’s T side.

Prize Pool Distribution

The Prize Distribution of the Top 4 teams at StarSeries & i-League Season 8 are:

  1. Evil Geniuses ($250,000)
  2. Fnatic ($80,000)
  3. FURIA esports ($40,000)
  4. Renegades ($25,000)

Evil Geniuses are quickly emerging as a strong force in CS:GO esports. After their ESL One New York victory, the North American team is the only team to have won two International LAN events post the Berlin Major.
