Forward Gaming Qualified for ESL One Birmingham – A Little Overview

Forward Gaming

Just a few days after qualifying for the OGA Dota Pit Minor, the NA squad also seized the North American slot for ESL One Birmingham. The qualifiers were definitely a lot more interesting than people anticipated.

Forward Gaming had to deal with many strong enemies before they were able to grab that slot. After losing against Team Team, they had to fight for their survival in the Lower part of the bracket. However, it seems like they can deal with the pressure if we judge by their results. They were able to sweep through J.storm, Team Team and compLexity Gaming.

One of the main starts for the NA team was the one and only – YawaR. The Pakistani prodigy is currently having the best time of his life. If he continues to impress we might see a big roster change after the end of TI 9. Until then, he will most likely remain in Forward Gaming.

ESL One Birmingham

For a second year in a row, ESL One returns to the UK after the first edition was held in May 2018. In fact, it was the fasters selling Dota 2 tournament ever, according to the organizers. This year, at the end of May, twelve teams from all around the world will once again have the chance to prove themselves in the Arena Birmingham. The prize pool is $300,000 even though this event is not included in the DPC.

Format

The tournament will have twelve teams in total. Eight of them are directly invited while the other four had to go through the regional qualifiers.

There will be two groups of six teams each.  As usual, the games will be played in a Bo2 round robin. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Upper Bracket of the playoffs. On the contrary, 3rd and 4th placed teams will have to fight in the Lower Bracket. The bottom two teams from either group are eliminated.

There are also special rules just in case there is a tiebreaker. You will be able to catch the games in the Group Stage from May 23-25.

The first round of the Upper Bracket will be played on May 30th. All other games of the playoffs will be played at the Barclaycard Arena from May 31 to June 2 in front of a live audience. They will be played in a double elimination Bo3 format until the Grand Final, which is Bo5.
