Valve announces August return for The International 10; Launches Supporters Club for Dota 2 fans

May 12, 2021 | 0 | 0| |

Valve has announced details about The International 10 that will take place later this year. The game developer has also launched the Supporter’s Club, a new way for Dota 2 fans to support their favorite teams.

The International 10: Schedule, Prize pool and location

Stockholm will host The International 10 with a $40 million prize pool.

The International 10 will take place from August 5-15 this year in Stockholm, Sweden. Valve has also released the schedule for the mega-event. The group stage will kick off on August 5 featuring the best Dota 2 teams from each of the six regions.

The group stage takes place from August 5-8, 2021 and the teams then move on to the main event that starts on August 10. As the top teams in the world battle it out on the Main stage, the entire esports community will tune in on August 15. The Grand Finals will take place on August 15 and one team will win the largest esports prize pool in history.

However, Valve has not yet revealed if the event will have a live audience. As the global pandemic continues in various parts of the world, countries have different travel restrictions in place. Social distancing norms in some countries also prohibit large gatherings, which could play spoilsport for an event of this magnitude.

What is the Supporter’s Club?

In addition to the TI news, Valve has also finally unveiled the new ‘Team Bundles.’ The Supporter’s Club is a way for fans to support their favorite Dota 2 teams by purchasing bundles of badges and seasonal equippables.

There are three tiers in the Supporter’s Club with different pricing and perks. Here’s what is available in each tier of the Supporter’s Club:

  • Bronze Tier: Team Badge.
  • Silver Tier: Sprays and emoticons.
  • Gold Tier: Special in-game HP-bar badge, loading screens, and voice lines.

Badges will appear in multiple places throughout the game, including friends list, player profiles, the Versus Screen, and the in-game scoreboard.

At launch, Dota 2 features Supporter’s Club for seventeen teams. More teams will join the Club soon as they submit their content and it gets approved by Valve.

Valve drops hints on future in-game Dota 2 events

Valve plans to have regular in-game events spread throughout the year. The game developer has already shown indications towards the same with Diretide and the New Player event.

Valve plans to release two separate events in the coming months. The first event will take place before The International, while the second one takes place sometime after the mega-event.

Finally, Valve says there will be more ways for fans to engage with The International.
